Species Vulnerable to Cat Predation

Feral cats consume approximately 15% of their body weight each day in available food. Most of that available food consists of the various creatures we will be listing here over time.

There are an estimated 4,000 feral cats on Kangaroo Island weighing an average of around 3 kg each. This results in approximately 650 tonnes of these creatures consumed each year. Considering cats don't only kill for food, it is possible they are responsible for losses of a much higher magnitude.

The Kangaroo Island Cat Control Committee thanks Tim Newbery for his magnificent wildlife photographs, Dave Houston for his Little Penguin photograph and Pelican Lagoon Research Centre for their comprehensive listing of animals eaten by Kangaroo Island's feral cats.
